Shaving cream is well loved no matter how it's used in this house. We've used it as body paints (http://ashlen-kidspert.blogspot.com/2014/07/pools-and-painting.html), as sensory activities (http://ashlen-kidspert.blogspot.com/2014/09/sensory-activity-apple-scented-shaving.html), and now we've turned it into a paint. Last winter, we used shaving cream paint to paint blizzard pictures. This year we painted candy canes.
What you'll need for your very own shaving cream paints:
- Shaving cream
- Glue
- Food coloring
- Paint brushes
First, put your desired amount of shaving cream in a bowl. Add food coloring if you wish to do so at this time. Add in the amount of glue you'd like--consistencies can vary on this, but it should still feel like shaving cream with a glue-like appearance. Like this:
Use paint brush to mix together and begin painting.
For the candy canes, I drew candy cane shapes on poster board and had the kids cut them out beforehand. I also drew red lines on each block that should be red and left the white blocks. That way the kids knew how to paint their candy cane (I did this for two and three year olds, older kids can probably figure this out on their own).
It took around 24 hours for the candy canes to dry--the more shaving cream paint used, the longer it takes to dry.
The shaving cream paint candy canes turned out to be fantastic wall decorations for the Christmas season!
